Even our societies changed dramaticaly, yet the qualities of a good sun or a good daughter remained the same throughout history. Either a young boy or girl, a youth, or an old man or woman the qualities of a good son or daughter are the same, though their responsibilites towards their parents change by their age.

As a young boy the good child shows his gratitude to his parents by different ways. First, by showing opedience to them, knowing that they are older and wiser than him and working for his best, he must do whatever they ask him to do. Second, he must make them feel proud of him, which can be done by many ways, like by making good progress in school, or by doing volunteer work to help the community. Third, he must help his parents in their daily duties, for example, I do clean the garden of our house every weekend to help my father, and I do take the loundry regularly to assist my mother.

As a youth and a man, the good son shows his respect and gratitude by many ways too. After his marriage he keeps visiting his parents regularly, he shows them how much he cares by taking his children and visits the parents bringing them a nice gift. When the son gets old, his parents get old too, so he must take them to the doctor whever they feel sick, he must stay with them until they are fully recovered. The old parents may feel isolated from the society, so he must take them out to the open air, like for a walk in the park so they feel refreshed and maintain a high spirit.

The qualities of a good son or daughter remained the same over time in my culture, though the responsibilities of a good son to his parents changed over the course of his life. As a young boy, he shows respect by helping his parents. While as an youth or a man he helps them by showing care and visiting them, and by taking them to the doctor whenever they are sick. I think these good qualities will remain the same forever, as the technology and the scientific development will not change the relation between the parents and their children.

When asked about the important qualities of a good son or daughter, people have all kind of views concerning it. From my point of view, the important qualities of a good son or daughter consist of listening to the right advice from parents, taking care of parents when growing up and respecting them.

The most important quality, I think, is that we should respect our parents. It was our parents who brought us into the world and brought us up. They provided us food and clothes, and send us to school to study knowledge. They tried their bests to make our life happy and comfortable. Accordingly, it was our responsibility to respect our parents, including their labor and opinions. We should not spend too much money on useless things because it comes from parents’ labor. At the same time, we must listen to the right advice from parents and don’t act according to our own wishes and desires despite the objection of parents.

The second quality for a good son is that we should care for our parents when we grow up. Nowadays we have already attended the university, usually far away from parents. So we should keep in touch with them by telephone, letter and e-mail, not making them feel lonely. We may talk about their life at home, such as their work and their health. In fact every time when I give a call to my parents, I may feel that they are very happy because of the telephone. The reason is that not only can the get the information about me, but also they know that their son concerns himself with his parents.

A good son should have many merits. From my point of view, respecting the parents and caring for them are the most important for everyone. What’s more, they can’t be changed with the development of the society because they are the fundamental qualities for a good son or daughter.
